Committees

About Church Council and Committees
Generally
Decisions on Church Life are made through the council and the standing committees. Most committees meet the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm. We begin together with devotions then separate into groups to attend business. A meal is provided for everyone. After the meal, the Church council holds their session. Suggestions and concerns are always welcome at the appropriate committee. Those with special interests, talents, and skills are encouraged to volunteer and help with a committee. Here is a description of the main leadership groups.

Church Council
The Church Council consists of nine (9) elected members and the pastor. Three members are elected annually to serve a three year term. One member serves as president, one as vice-president, and one as secretary of the congregation. The council also appoints a church treasurer (Harriet Rivers), and a financial secretary (church secretary) to maintain records of our contributions and finances. The council has the responsibility to oversee and conduct the business of the church. The council meets once a month (generally the second Thursday). Members of the council also serve as a liaison to the committees and help on Sunday mornings by counting offerings and assisting with communion.

Worship and Music
The Worship and Music committee plan the worship life of our congregation. They oversee the Altar Guild, worship furnishings and paraments, musicians and choir, securing of assistants for worship each Sunday, special music, and instruments.

Education and Youth
The Education and Youth committee is to oversee the Sunday School, our participation in Vacation Bible School (an ecumenical effort), confirmation, and adult education programs. Sunday School staff are members of this committee. The work of this committee is to encourage members of the congregation to continue to grow and explore their faith. Youth programming is also directed by this committee. Because of the many activities which are planned by this committee, they meet on a different night, generally the third Tuesday at 7:00 pm.

Witness and Service
The Witness and Service committee develop programs which service our congregation and witness to the community. It emphasizes the church's concern for the poor, the sick, the hungry, and all who need to hear the message of God's love and forgiveness. Calling and Caring is a part of this committee which helps those in our congregation needing assistance with meals, rides and other ways we can provide support to people during difficult times. Providing "sponsors" is a program which seeks to provide care and welcome for new comers to Saron.

Stewardship
The Stewardship committee is responsible to prepare programs which promote the Christian use of time, talent, and financial resources. The chief area of work is within the annual stewardship event when members are asked to estimate their financial support for the coming year.

Property
The Property committee sees to the upkeep of the church properties. They oversee our contracted services and organize workdays at the church. Long range goal planning directed by the congregation and council falls under their authority.
